Bonfire & Bliss Bookstore Book Review

RATING: 4 out of 5 Stars (with some major caveats)
Here is my book review of Bonfire & Bliss Bookstore by Brittanee Nicole. Penny Darling owns a bookstore in Hope Harbor. She loves reading romance novels and regaining her footing after a failed engagement. The town people of Hope Harbor are constantly trying to fix her up on a date and she is feeling hopeless. Jake Montgomery “Monty” is struggling to write his next book because he is dealing with writer’s block; as he can’t describe the color of a past love’s eyes. He heads back home to Hope Harbor and ends up bumping into his high school friend Penny.
Penny and Monty decide to help each other out. Penny will help Monty with his writers block by providing him ideas for his first romance novel and Monty will pretend to date Penny so the people of Hope Harbor stop feeling sorry for her. Once they begin, past feelings start to unravel between them and sparks fly.

What I loved:
I loved the fall vibes. The fake dating/friends to lover’s trope. The banter in the Hope Harbor Happy Chat (felt a lot like Gilmore Girls town halls). I actually really enjoyed the storyline; there were so many funny little quirks of the towns people that I enjoyed myself a lot throughout the books.
What I didn’t love:
The f* bombs were over the top! Like it became rather annoying, as at some points Monty is saying it in every paragraph. It also is very spicy! Like, more spice than I was comfortable with. The words were crass and some of the sex scenes were not anything I would find pleasurable. I don’t mean to yuck someone’s yum, but a few of these scenes were definitely NOT for me.
So, if you like spice, I think you will really enjoy it. If you are one to skim over spice, you probably will enjoy it as well, but if you don’t feel comfortable with spice, do not be coaxed in by the cozy cover.
